Disenchanting for friends and the Sunwell

Tag:Enchanting, Items, Analysis / Opinion, Economy, Making money

So Leafshine has a problem: She's got way too much stuff to disenchant. Her friends have been sending her things to disenchant for quite some time, letting her keep the ingredients. But now there's two things different: They're sending her droves of level 70 items, and they want the materials back.

If you've played the level 70 game and done the Shattered Sun Offensive dailies, you probably know where this is going. On a good day, doing the complete Outland daily circle, I can come out with somewhere around 10 disenchant-worthy items between regular drops and Shattered Sun Supplies. Leafshine says she can sometimes spend up to 10 minutes working on Disenchanting, and I can believe it. Every time I process a batch of greens on my disenchanter, not only does it take some time to get through with them, then I have to process multiple piles of reagents, and figure if I'm going to store them, sell them, or use them to make a tailoring blue which I will then disenchant into a shard.

Breakfast Topic: Biggest AH sale?

Tag:Economy, Breakfast topics, Making money

Once upon a time, before Burning Crusade was released, my Alliance druid was hanging out in Felwood and a Krol Blade dropped. I was able to sell it on the AH on the first try for 700 gold, which in those days was a lot of in-game cash.

Staying out of Outland

Tag:Analysis / Opinion, Tips, Virtual selves, Odds and ends, Leveling, Making money

If you listen to me (or anyone else around here, it seems), the major consensus seems to be to head to Outlands right at 58, period. The leveling is faster, the quests are more interesting, and the money is plentiful, as are the drops. But cyanrose over on WoW LJ makes an amazing case for exactly the opposite: staying in old Azeroth from levels 58-60.

Reigniting the flame and rediscovering the joy of Warcraft

Tag:Patches, Analysis / Opinion, Quests, Factions, Classes, Making money, Alts

I think my favorite part about a new patch is that it always seems to inject new life into WoW. Don't get me wrong, I love WoW all the time. I think it's a great game. But there's something about a new patch that always seems to invigorate me. There's new stuff to do, maybe a new twist or two to one of the classes I play, or at least to one of the classes I play against. What's even more interesting to me is that it sometimes makes even the old stuff feel brand new.

Take daily quests, for example. Before 2.4, I'd more or less retired from dailies. I had 2 characters exalted with the Netherwing, Ogri'la, and the Skyguard. My Hunter was only about friendly with Ogri'la and the Sha'tari Skyguard when I threw up my hands and just quit. I just got way too fed up with doing the same stuff over and over again, getting knocked out the air by cannonballs and annoying birds, rescuing the same ungrateful prisoner, putting up with Khatie's shameless flirting, and all that. So, I quit. I paid more attention to my sub-70 characters, leveled a Blood Elf Paladin to level 59 (only to find that the bracket is dead for PvP on my battlegroup, alas), did dungeon runs, ground some Consortium and Kurenai reputation, and all that good stuff.

Subsidizing profession progress with guild funds

Tag:Mining, Alchemy, Enchanting, Analysis / Opinion, Tips, Guilds, Making money

Lileah over on WoW LJ has an interesting idea that I've never thought of before. Well, her guild does -- she has a question about Illusion Dust, which yes, is hard to find. Usually your best bet is to run through the old level 55-60 instances, so Scholomance, Stratholme, and so on, but your best bet is probably the AH -- lots of people who can craft greens DE those and put the Dust up for sale there. Pricy but probably worth the time you'd spend grinding for them.

Fishing your way to profit

Tag:Fishing, Analysis / Opinion, Quests, Making money

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but all of a sudden, fishing seems to have become an extremely profitable profession. With the introduction the daily fishing quests in Patch 2.4, those with a bit of luck have found themselves getting a hefty profit from the Bag of Fishing Treasures that the quests give out as a reward. Any angler worth her salt knows that fishing can be profitable through selling fish cooked or raw through the Auction House, or even as junk through the vendor. Before the introduction of the goodies that come inside the Bag of Fishing Treasures, the Goldenscale Vendorfish was probably the most expensive gray item in the game, selling for 6 Gold to vendors. Anglers who are also cooks could profit nicely from raid buff foods such as Golden Fish Sticks or Skullfish Soup, or simply sell the raw ingredients. Even low-level fish sell rather well to those who would like to level their cooking.
